Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 21, 2026
Best Dog Daily (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of every visitor to bestdogdaily.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who We Are
The data controller for this website is Emma Walker, operating as Best Dog Daily, based in London, United Kingdom. You can reach the data controller at contact@bestdogdaily.com.
Information We Collect
We collect two broad categories of data:
- Information you give us voluntarily — your name and email address when you fill in the contact form, subscribe to our newsletter, or leave a comment on an article. We also store the content of any message you send us.
- Information collected automatically — your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, approximate location (city/country level), the pages you visit, and the time spent on each page. This is gathered through standard server logs and analytics tools.
How We Use Your Information
We use the data described above to (a) respond to your enquiries, (b) send newsletter emails if you’ve opted in, (c) moderate and display comments, (d) improve the structure and content of the site based on anonymised usage patterns, and (e) protect the site from spam, abuse, and security threats.
Legal Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we process your data on the following bases: consent (for newsletter sign-ups and non-essential cookies), legitimate interest (for analytics, security, and replying to contact messages), and legal obligation (for record-keeping where required).
Cookies
Best Dog Daily uses a small number of cookies. Essential cookies keep the site functional (remembering that you’ve dismissed the cookie banner, for example). Analytics cookies — provided by third-party tools such as Google Analytics or a privacy-focused equivalent — help us understand which articles are useful. Advertising cookies may be set by embedded content (such as YouTube videos). You can disable non-essential cookies through our consent banner or your browser settings at any time.
Third Parties
We share data with a limited set of processors who help us run the site: our hosting provider (cloud infrastructure based in the EU/UK), our email delivery service, our analytics provider, and comment/spam-filtering services. Each processor is contractually required to handle your data in line with UK GDPR. We do not sell personal data to anyone, ever.
International Transfers
Some of our processors may store data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this is the case, we rely on UK-approved transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses to ensure your data remains protected to an equivalent standard.
Data Retention
Contact form messages are retained for up to 24 months, after which they are deleted unless an ongoing conversation is active. Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is anonymised and kept for up to 26 months.
Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion (“the right to be forgotten”), restrict or object to processing, and request a portable copy of your data. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@bestdogdaily.com with “Data Subject Request” in the subject line. We’ll respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you believe we’ve mishandled your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We’d prefer you contact us first so we can try to put things right.
Changes to This Policy
We’ll update this page if our practices change. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of the policy and, where legally required, notified to newsletter subscribers.
